iPhone 12 – Great Screen, Expensive to Fix?

Your Problem

2020 was a great year for iPhone fans, with the release of the iPhone 12 and its fantastic quality Super Retina XDR OLED display. This was a major step up from its LCD-based predecessor, the iPhone 11, and the first time Apple had used OLEDs outside the highest-end flagship models.

The “problem” comes when your broken iPhone 12 screen needs replaced. OLEDs are generally expensive and hard to obtain, and that’s reflected in the repair price… assuming you can even find someone who offers it.

Most places offering replacements for your iPhone 12’s smashed screen get round this by fitting a cheap, unofficial LCD display. Not so great for you- those copy LCDs are generally poor quality, far inferior to your original OLED or even Apple’s own LCDs.

However, in many cases, there’s another solution that means you can keep the genuine OLED quality you’re used to, at a much lower price, comparable to a cheap LCD screen replacement.

Our Solution

This is where glass replacement comes in- and how it works is simple. Often when your screen gets broken, it’s just the surface glass that’s cracked. If you can see the OLED screen underneath still in working order, it’s possible to replace the broken surface glass and keep the underlying OLED panel.

Sounds simple, but it takes quite a bit of skill and specialised equipment. That’s why most places don’t offer it… but we do.

Advantages of Glass Replacement

  • Have Your Cake and Eat It – You keep the original OLED display quality, but at a price closer to a cheap replacement LCD
  • Doesn’t Give ‘Non-Genuine’ Messages – A screen replacement from anyone other than an Apple-certified repairer will give warnings about “non-genuine” screens (even for a genuine screen from another iPhone). With glass replacement, the screen itself is still original, so this doesn’t happen.
  • Helps Keep Your Phone’s Quality and Resale Value – A poorer-quality, badly-fitting LCD copy is more likely to reduce the value of your iPhone if you plan on ever reselling it.
  • Avoids the Risk of LCD Problems – Because your iPhone 12 was meant to work with an OLED, fitting a cheap LCD is likely to cause problems, including higher power consumption and even possible damage to your phone.

How Do I Arrange a Glass Replacement

If you need to ask us any questions before sending off your phone get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.

To have the glass replaced on your phone, please first confirm that only the surface glass is cracked and that the underlying screen is in working order. (That is, there should be no stripes, blocks, or obvious abnormal marks; see the FAQ on this page for more details).

Once you’re ready click our “Arrange Repair” button. You’ll be taken to the form to submit the relevant details- once you receive the response email, print it off (or copy the information), enclose that with your phone, and send it to us.

Once we’ve received your phone, we’ll repair it then contact you to arrange payment. Once this is done, it’ll be returned to you by courier.

FAQ for iPhone 12 Glass Replacement Service

Do I pay first or later?

You don’t pay anything until your phone has been repaired. We’ll get in touch once this is done to arrange payment.

What's the expected turnaround time?

Generally, assuming it doesn’t arrive too late (i.e. by early afternoon), it’s likely that your phone will be repaired and ready for collection by our courier (or by yourself) the same day. Otherwise it’s likely to be ready the next day.

Is glass replacement always possible?

No, glass replacement is only possible where it’s just the surface glass that’s cracked. The OLED screen itself should still be in working order.
