Who We Are
Disc Depot – Years of Experience
The “We Buy LCDs” service is offered by Disc Depot, a long established computer supplies and repair business, trading since 2001. Starting out as a supplier of blank DVDs and CDs- hence the name!- we quickly expanded the range and branched out into repairs as our retail operation became established. We now have two branches in Dundee and St Andrews as well as diskdepot.co.uk, our UK-wide retail website.
Today, digital repairs are a core area of our business- we’ve been repairing smartphones for over a decade (starting literally within months of the launch of the original iPhone in 2007)*, and tablets since the days of the original iPad! Having been there since the beginning, we quickly became knowledgeable in the field, and our screen refurbishment and recycling business came about as a natural extension of the skills we’d picked up to meet our own requirements.
Why Choose Us?
We Have the Skills, Experience and Equipment They Lack
Considering that we’ve been in phone and tablet repair far longer than most of our local would-be rivals have even been in existence, it’s no surprise that we know what we’re doing! Our additional experience and investment in equipment means that many other companies come to us to help out with more complex repairs and refurbishments that they wouldn’t begin to consider themselves.
This extends to our skill with LCD and OLED screen refurbishing and recycling. We’ve invested not just in the specialised equipment needed for refurbishment, but in time spent improving our skills and keeping up with the latest developments. Along with smartphone and tablet repair, the We Buy LCDs division is now a core part of our business and one we take very seriously.
* In fact, our head technician in St Andrews was one of the first to own an iPhone in mid-2007. He was also first in line at the Aberdeen Apple store for the original iPad in mid-2010.
Competitive Prices
How is it that we’re able to offer a higher-quality refurbishment service for your screens, yet still remain competitive on price? Quite simply, it’s because we have the skills, equipment and setup that make it economic for us to do so!
Similarly, if you’re looking to sell your screens or other components for recycling, we can afford to offer a good price- usually more than they’re worth to you!- because we know how to get the best out of them.
Please see our current refurbishment and recycling price lists for more details.
Why Is Our Screen Refurbishment Quality Superior?
Quite simply, we know how to do it properly. We use the same OCA (optically clear adhesive) technology as most large-scale, factory-based refurbishment and manufacturing operations. We do it this way for the same reason they do- it gives the best results.
They Use LOCA and Adhesive Stickers- We Don’t
Many smaller companies prefer to use LOCA (liquid optically clear adhesive) because it’s cheaper and easier to use for small-scale operations. Unfortunately, this poor-man’s alternative also gives noticeably inferior results.
LOCA also has a distinctive (i.e. unpleasant) smell that often doesn’t go away entirely after it’s cured. We experimented with LOCA prior to launching our own service, but abandoned it as unsatisfactory.
